Anastrozole (Arimidex) Description

Anastrozole (Arimidex), chemically known as 2,2-[5-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)-1,3-phenylene]bis(2-methylpropiononitrile) a derivative of benzotriazole with the CAS registry number 120511-73-1, is a non-steroidal, third-generation achiral triazole derivative marketed as ARIMIDEX by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP1. Anastrozole (Arimidex) is one of the third-generation aromatase inhibitor which is a highly competitive and selective inhibitor of aromatase, thus blocking the conversion of testosterone into estradiol and androstenedione into estrone. Inhibition of the aromatase enzyme occurs particularly through competitive binding of aromatase to the hemegroup of cytochrome P450, decreasing estrogen biosynthesis in the peripheral tissues of the body and in the breast.

Although Anastrozole(Arimidex) does slightly increase testosterone levels in the body, Arimidex is more often used in combination with other Steroids to reduce estrogen in the body. Many anabolic steroids are converted or aromatized into estrogen in the body, which can cause many unwanted side effects such as bloating and acne. Anastrozole (Arimidex) is one of the best compounds to reduce the aromatization of steroids.

Anastrozole (Arimidex) is a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor, approved for the treatment of post-operative breast cancer and metastasis in pre- and post-menopausal women. Estrogen can increase the severity of breast cancer because sex hormones cause the proliferation and differentiation of estrogen receptor sites. Anastrozole works by inhibiting the synthesis of estrogen. This drug is used to treat breast cancer in women who have undergone a "life change" (menopause). Anastrozole (Arimidex) helps shrink tumors and slow their growth by reducing estrogen levels.

Anastrozole (Arimidex) Usage

Anastrozole (Arimidex) is a potent selective triazole aromatase inhibitor that inhibits the aromatase that cytochrome P-450 is dependent on to prevent the biosynthesis of estrogen. Estrogen is the main stimulating factor for breast cancer cell growth. This drug’s half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value to human placental aromatase is 15nmol/L. Compared to the traditional drug tamoxifen, Anastrozole (Arimidex) can comprehensively and effectively lower the risks of breast cancer recurrence and metastasis, thus extending patients’ disease-free survival.

Anastrozole (Arimidex) is suitable for treating postmenopausal advanced breast cancer patients, especially postmenopausal advanced breast cancer patients who experienced recurrence following hormone assisted therapy.
